11/24/2018 0 Comments Marlin 39a Serial Number DatesNote that records are chaotic as all models were numbered in a single serial number range, and numbers are often duplicated, and the dates recorded are apparently shipping dates, not dates of manufacture. Brophy studied the records and came up with the following as dates of manufacture. Explore the industry's most diverse line of lever action and rimfire rifles. Filter your search by everything from cartridge, barrel finish, barrel length, stock finish,. Gents, I have a chance at a couple different Marlins but honestly don't know anything about the current market. So thought I'd ask before I jump into either one. 39a with serial number indicating 1947. I can see the number. Wood and metal look in reasonably good condition based on photos. Down side, previous owner engraved his name along the lever (ughh). 39a owner thinks is a 1953. Haven't seen any numbers yet. Straight grip stock (Mountie?). Again, wood and metal look in reasonably good condition based on photos. Gent was away from the gun and couldn't verify a few things I saw in the pictures that looked like rust speckles and screw head damage. Will talk again this evening when he has it back in his hands and can confirm. Let's assume for this discussion that these are both 'optical' conditions (camera issues) and not real. I haven't seen either of these in person. Only 'not to great' pictures so hesitate to even show them here. What would be a good 'average' going rate given good condition with only normal wear? Are these particularly desirable compared to something newer or is the opposite the case? Neither one is totally pristine. But neither look beat up either. Thanks for your patience and your feedback. Really have an itch for a 39a so want to get myself educated. I have about 7 different Marlin 39 and 39a models with the former having Ballard type rifling and the later ones all with micro groove rifling, which all seem to be tackdrivers. I would say it mainly depends on how good a condition Marlin you wish to have with prices ranging in value of $300 for almost any 39a that will still shoot to upwards of 1000 for a very nice older model 39a with the first models of the 39a even some more than that so it is pretty much all on condition and how much you are willing to pay. Your estimated date of mfg is likely correct. Regarding the failure to eject, that's probably due to worn out or dirty spring or extractor on the bolt face. You can remove those and clean them yourself, but I'd bet it needs a new spring and/or a new extractor. I had the same problem with an old Savage 6a. Microsoft basic display adapter driver. Be very careful removing these tiny parts if you decide to try cleaning them, as they are easy loose. I'd advise locating replacements before you do this, as parts for old guns can be nearly impossible to find. • About us Our community has been around for many years and pride ourselves on offering unbiased, critical discussion among people of all different backgrounds.
